FESTIVITIES, CELEBRATIONS AND CULTURAL EVENTS
“A vulata ra palumma” On the Day of the Epiphany we commemorate the manifestation of the divinity of Christ on the occasion of his baptism in the Jordan River. After the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the faithful and the Papas go to Piazza Umberto I and the latter blesses the waters of the octagonal fountain from 1608. From the bell tower of the Church of Maria SS. Assunta then descends along a thread, a dove tied with a red ribbon, representing the Holy Spirit.
On January 17th, Sant’Antonio Abate is celebrated, venerated by the faithful of the Greek-Byzantine rite, on the occasion of which the priest proceeds to bless the animals.
On the occasion of the feast of Saint Joseph, many families, thanks to the grace received, set tables full of bread made in different shapes together with other dishes.
On June 24th, Saint John the Baptist is celebrated with the traditional “rumpitina de pignate”, an ancient event in which young boys on the backs of donkeys rush to break the pignatas hanging from a rope with sticks, from which ash, talcum powder then come out. , water or coins and sweets to the delight of the children, who hurry to collect them.
On the night between 31 July and 1 August, the community of Palazzo Adriano usually climbs to the top of the Rose Mountain and sings the nostalgic song “O e bukura Morè”, remembering on this occasion the arrival of the Albanians in the second mid-15th century at Palazzo Adriano. In the evening of the same day, the kennel is distributed in Piazza Umberto I. The latter responds to the tradition of the eastern church of starting Lent with the Dormition of the Madonna and therefore it is a penitential form.
On August 16th, A Fera, the most important holiday of the Maria SS Parish, is held. Assumption of the Greek – Byzantine rite. The SS. Crucifix is placed inside an important processional launch dating back to 1639.
On the first Sunday of September, San Giuseppe is celebrated again at Palazzo Adriano, and it is the most important celebration for the Latin rite community. On the Friday before the feast, in the churchyard of the Church of Santa Maria del Lume, a large table is set up with a considerable quantity of bread of different shapes, mass is celebrated and at the end the blessed bread is distributed to the faithful.
TERRITORIAL ITINERARIES
Palazzo Adriano is part of the Borghi dei Tesori circuit, an Association created under the aegis of the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation, of the Itinerarium Rosaliae, a naturalistic-cultural-religious journey created in 2014 by the Department of Rural and Territorial Development of the Department of Agriculture of Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries of the Sicily Region, and of the Association of the “Cities of the SS Crucifix”.
