FESTIVITIES, CELEBRATIONS AND CULTURAL EVENTS
“A vulata ra palumma” On the Day of the Epiphany, the flying of the dove takes place, which recalls the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan and the descent of the Holy Spirit.
Blessing and distribution of the “Panuzza” of San Giuseppe On the evening of March 18, the function of the “touches of San Giuseppe” which represents the passing of the Saint takes place in the church of the Annunziata. In the week preceding the celebrations of March 19th, the “panuzza” of S. Giuseppe are prepared, round-shaped sandwiches, rather flattened with a diameter of about 5cm. They are blessed and exposed to the visit of the faithful on the eve after “the touches” and distributed by the brothers to all the families of the town on the morning of March 19th.
During Holy Week, on the Saturday of St. Lazarus, an Albanian-language choir narrates the resurrection of Lazarus. The choir moves from house to house and culminates with the offering of eggs.
The Mastro di Campo is a historical-folkloristic event. Every year, on the last Sunday of Carnival, the town is transformed into a theatrical setting, to give life to a popular pantomime which represents the rivalry between the Master of the Field and the King in winning the heart of the Queen.
