Web3
FROM
Genova, Italy
Andrea Castagnino, known as Web3, was born in 1989 in Genoa, where he took his first steps in graffiti. After graduating in advertising graphics from the Vittorio Emanuele-Ruffini Institute, obtained in 2008, Web3 continued his artistic research by experimenting with different techniques. Self-taught, he combines the techniques of graffiti and airbrush, fusing together photorealistic portraits and bright colors, creating his works on walls, objects and even helmets. He has participated in various national and international events: among these the Meeting of Style and the National Winter Rally for Harley Davidson. He has collaborated, among many, with the Genoese art gallery Satura.
“The endless struggle”
For over two centuries, on the picturesque scene of Piazza Umberto I in Mezzojuso, the popular festival of the Mastro di Campo, unique in its kind, has been celebrated. A representation that involves one hundred characters dressed in period costumes and which, ultimately, is the story of a conquest, a wonderful revival of the game of love. The absolute protagonist of this game is the Field Master, a character with marked symbolic traits covered by a red mask, who attempts to conquer the Queen, the archetype of every beloved woman. The artist, in the sumptuous clothing and solemnity of the large white beard and cigar, paints the figure of the king, rival in love of the Master of the Field. Both are fighting for the queen’s hand. The king represents the winter that has now passed, contrasted with the Master, the image of spring, of rebirth. The Queen, on the other hand, is the image of the pure Beauty of nature.
