Lisbon, Portugal
Camilo Nuñez (Theic) is a Uruguayan artist living in Lisbon. He studied at the Istituto Escuela nacional de Bellas Artes, since 2008 he has dedicated himself to different areas of art such as photography, painting, design and sculpture. In 2010, together with Florencia Durán, he started the project, Colectivo Licuado, aimed at creating murals in public and private spaces, participating in events in many countries around the world. The artist is passionate about classical painting, Greek, Egyptian and Roman mythology, which is why his works take inspiration from ancient art, generating works in which the human being is the protagonist. Technique and color assume great importance in his painting to obtain works of a realistic nature.
"Mr deeds & babe"
The work is inspired by Frank Capra’s film “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town”, considered one of the undisputed masterpieces of American cinema. The story is both simple and complex, because it is a fable about real life, based on the depth of feelings against a capitalist mentality based on money. Mr. Deed, a simple and straightforward country boy, inherits a large sum of money, he, mad, has decided to divide the money with the poor of the city and live his life in poverty, as he once did. As in any self-respecting comedy, love creeps in: a journalist will end up falling in love with him and will help him defend himself against those who want to have him banned. In the end, as demonstrated by Theic’s work, the very sweet meeting between the two lovers on the bench, happiness is a meeting between people who possess nothing other than the joy of living, asking for nothing other than being happy together. The work reproduces the nocturnal scenario of the meeting and is inscribed in the perimeter wall of an amphitheatre, enhancing and amplifying the sensation of rapprochement between the two figures.
