Mauro Carrafiello, known as La180, was born in Salerno in 1977. In the 90s he began to be interested in graffiti, starting the research that would lead him to develop his style, certainly influenced by various artists on the national writing scene who would lead him to evolve and improve techniques. In 1999, with three other artists, he founded the group “La 180”. The birth of the group was followed by years of great artistic activity: he painted in various cities in Europe and Italy, meeting various exponents of the international writing scene and his works. are published in various sector magazines. The artist, particularly attentive to the redevelopment of urban spaces, questions the degradation of industrial areas and the impact of environmental pollution on nature.
“La madonna delle funzioni"
La180’s work is dedicated to the Madonna delle Funzioni, a religious festival which takes place in the second week of August in Roccamena and in which the entire community of the town participates. The Virgin of Functions, a beautiful name for the Mother of God, appears in La180’s work in all the splendor of her crown, in the splendid blue of her dress and bright jewels. The figure stands out on a gold circle which enhances its decoration and figure. Is it the sun of life that illuminates everything? Is it the golden light of the divine? There is a profound mysticism in this work that envelops us with its mystery. At the edge of the circle a little bird flies with a twig in its beak. But it is an ear of wheat that makes the work symbolic. Not only because it alludes to the One who made himself bread for us, but because it makes sacred the work of those who turn to the Virgin to ask for the grace of a good harvest.
