Heavy Mentall
FROM
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Lina Besedina, known as Heavy Mentall, is a professional mural artist, illustrator and graphic designer based in Buenos Aires. His technique combines elements of traditional art training with the raw energy of contemporary Latin American urban graffiti, often using both latex and spray paint. Lina’s artistic talents are sought after by a wide range of clients, including national and international organizations, individuals and street art festivals. Drawing inspiration from mythology, nature, folklore and personal experiences, Lina’s murals aim to create a fascinating interplay between the familiar and the unknown, the real and the surreal. Through his art, he seeks to reflect the richness and complexity of the human experience.
“Bread Pitt”
Bread, like wine, are sacred, powerfully evangelical elements. Bread, in all its forms, becomes something symbolic, which must be respected. It is a food that evokes the name of Jesus, bread of Life. It is therefore not surprising that in many countries, as in many brotherhoods of bakers even in cities, religious festivals are organized in which bread is the protagonist. The feast of San Giuseppe, honored by Lina Besedina’s mural, is a perfect example of this. And it is obvious why the festival is dedicated to Saint Joseph, who has always been linked to workers and bakers. The altars for the feast of St. Joseph are a riot of symbolic forms, of extremely precise signs and references even in their mutual positioning. Lina Besedina reinterprets this cult in her own way, she does it with her intense and psychedelic colours, she captures and perfectly reproduces that joy of making and shaping bread which is the basis of this cult. It has a festive impact, almost surreal due to the intense shades of the backgrounds, but deeply evocative. There is a joyful irony on the artist’s part, a benevolent irony that reflects his strong personality and his vital energy. This mural is a secular look at a traditional cult, which highlights its precious formal and creative aspect.
Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
