Abramo Gianfranco, aka ENCS18, is a street artist from Turin born in 1979. His artistic journey began at a young age, inspired by his brother’s passion for drawing and the nascent hip-hop culture of the 90s. Initially attracted by graffiti, with as his artistic expression evolved, he began to create “puppet” characters, often depicting distorted and caricatured human figures. His work reflects a blend of personal emotions and cultural influences, capturing the essence of street art as a dynamic and expressive medium. Throughout his career he has actively participated in the street art scene, traveling in Italy and abroad to showcase his talent and meet and collaborate with other artists.

The work is inspired by the documentary film “The shameful story”, by Nella Condorelli. The artist portrays a girl on a ship, in two different moments: on the one hand the moment of departure from Sicily, a native land rich in memories and affections, is depicted, on the other the departure from the Americas to return to one’s roots. It is almost a cliché to say that life is a journey, but there are many ways to tell it and transform the journey into a perfect symbol of time and the generations that pass. The young emigrant, painted by ENCS18 (Gianfranco Abramo) shows profound melancholy in her gaze: departure is often an inevitable act and almost never part of an authentic will, the woman is abandoning something precious and dear. But the return home instead shows all its beauty in the awareness of those who, having experienced the new world, want to return to their roots, rediscover the one in which their origins are rooted.
