With very vivid colours, a young peasant woman in the foreground holds the scythe with the young strength of the earth which, behind her, has given life to the lush ears of corn which are the fruit of her sacred labour. The large left arm rises to cover the eyes from the sun which express both the fatigue and the joy that comes from working in the fields. The dress she wears breaks the great yellow wall of the ears with its colors and in the solemn light of midday we sense what the bucolic spirit really is: a return to the soul of nature which, for its daughters and sons, gives in the grain of wheat the first element of life.
